Inside The Course - Full Curriculum

Module 1: "Getting Started"

This is where you should be if you're brand new to Rekordbox - or making a "new start" with a different version of the platform. Here you'll find an introduction to Rekordbox, a lesson explaining the differences between the versions, and help with installing, launching and setting up the software. By the end of this module, you'll be ready to start using Rekordbox.

Module 2: "Music Collection"

Traditionally, Rekordbox's biggest strength was in its library management features, and they remain the most powerful of any DJ software. In this module, you'll learn how to add music to Rekordbox and analyse it, how to manage that music including editing track information, how to search using filters, tag and related tracks, and how to work with playlists and smart playlists.

Module 3: "Export Mode"

The first of the two "main" modes of Rekordbox is Export mode, which is where you'll prepare your music to export to USB or SD card for DJing on standalone gear, but also a mode you can use to DJ directly from with compatible hardware. You'll learn about playing and previewing tracks, beatgrids, cues and loops, using the two-player mode to audition transitions, and how to export to USB and use Link mode for DJing.

Module 4: "Performance Basics"

In this, the first of three modules on Rekordbox's Performance mode, I'll introduce you to setting up and basic DJing with this laptop DJing side of the software. I'll show you how to add extra decks, tweak the screen layout, then use sync, quantise, master tempo, your headphones, cues and loops and more, including automating playlists, and how to record and share your DJ sets.

Module 5: "Performance - FX"

Rekordbox's Performance mode features effects taken straight from Pioneer DJ's best club mixers but then gives you exciting new ways to use them that move way beyond what those mixers can offer. I'll demonstrate how to set your effects up, then cover all the types of effects - Beat FX, Release FX, Sound Color FX, Pad FX and Merge FX.

Module 6: "Performance - Advanced"

Here are all the features that once conquered, will set you apart from the vast majority of Rekordbox DJs: From "Track Separation" (ie real-time stems) to musical key features (key sync, key shift and "keyboard" mode), to using the sampler, sequencer and slicer, to pre-preparing "clean" edits using Active Censor and mastering the new Mix Point Link mix automation feature, it's all here.

Module 7: "Extra Features"

Whether expanding on what Export mode and Performance mode offer you, incorporating other hardware, or completely different additions to the platform, here's where you'll learn about the extras that make Rekordbox so powerful. From its Digital Vinyl System (DVS), to using your laptop with CDJs, Pad/Midi editing to the "Rekordbox Edit" re-editing feature, Rekordbox Video to Lyric and Lighting, it's time to push the boundaries of what you do with Rekordbox.

Module 8: "Using The Cloud"

In recent years, the cloud has become a big part of how we live our lives, and so Rekordbox now has powerful cloud features that could potentially transform the way you DJ too. From the basics such as plugging in music streaming services such as Tidal and Beatport, to using Cloud Library Sync to keep one master Rekordbox library across your laptops and mobile devices, to actually accessing your whole library over the internet from standalone gear, you'll learn about all things "cloud" here.

Module 9: "Finally..."

To end the course, I'll talk you through the what, why and how of keyboard shortcuts, give you a comprehensive, line-by-line summary of everything in the Settings window, and finally, some recommendations as to next steps having finished the course. Congratulations: Once you get this far, you will officially be a "Rekordbox ninja"!

"I have older gear, will this still work for me?"
Yes. If it works with Rekordbox - this course covers it. So whether you’ve got the latest gear, or one of the very first Rekordbox controllers, and whether you use beginner kit, a pro controller, a standalone, or club-standard CDJs with a mixer, or any of the other Pioneer DJ gear out there, past or present... it's designed for you. Rekordbox is SOFTWARE, it's the same for everyone, and your gear won't hold you back from getting the most from this course.

"What makes this different from YouTube videos or other online training courses out there?"
There is nothing remotely like this for Rekordbox in existence, period - nothing anywhere else has the depth, detail, or quality. We're the world authority in DJ training, and work closely with Pioneer DJ - so you know you are learning from the best. It's constantly updated as new features arrive, and you get professional help from us directly when you need it.
"I'm just a beginner DJ - is this something I really need at this point?"
Yes! Nowadays, understanding your DJ software is the crucial first step to becoming a competent DJ. If you aren't confident with your software, you'll find learning the skills of DJing much harder. Rekordbox Made Easy will get you across this first hurdle (a hurdle many DJs fall at) quickly and painlessly so you can get on with the real work of learning to DJ.

Remember too that from lowly beginner DJ controllers right up to the mightiest set-ups in the biggest festival DJ booths, the software most DJs use is Rekordbox. Now, you are a "Pioneer DJ" too - so the earlier you get to grips with the software, the easier you'll find it to progress "up the chain".

"Will it teach me what all the controls on my controller do? What about how to use CDJs and pro DJ gear?
Yes! It teaches you how to use any Rekordbox-compatible controller, DJ system, media player, mixer or pro set-up. Once you understand that your DJ gear is just a simple interface between you and the amazing functions of Rekordbox and Rekordbox DJ, you'll truly unlock the potential of this unique platform - and your creativity.

In other words, once you understand the software - really understand the software - you'll be able to DJ on any Pioneer gear like a pro. It's the best way to get "club ready". The difference is that we teach you to do things with it that your audiences won't be expecting - and will be delighted to see and hear you doing. As you know, today's party crowds expect a higher standard from event DJs, having been brought up with "club culture" - this is your key to delivering that.
"I'm not new to DJing, only to Rekordbox. Do I need this course?"
Getting started with a new DJ software, or switching to software for the first time, is one of the hardest things you'll do as a DJ. There is a lot more to Rekordbox and Rekordbox DJ than all other DJ software platforms, because it works as a standalone library system too, and because it can be used with or without a laptop.

Think of it as an ecosystem rather than just an app. If you already DJ or have DJed in the past, maybe on vinyl, or CDs, or even with another type of DJ software, once you've decided to use Rekordbox it's important you learn its intricacies properly and quickly.
"I'm pretty proficient at Rekordbox already. Will I learn something new here?"
As an experienced DJ, you know that standing out from the crowd "at the top" - the difference between "good" and "great" - is all about margins. If you only learned one new thing from this course that made a change in your DJing, would it be worth it? We're pretty sure you'll learn much more that that.

What's more, Rekordbox is constantly changing, getting new features, extensions, add-ons, upgrades and equipment that works with it. Once you own this course, you tap into all of our research and knowledge as we update the lessons here to reflect those improvements. For a one-off payment today, you've got all of that for life.

Since we delivered our very first course in 2011, we've put high quality teaching at the heart of what we do. We have a proven system for teaching that's not only clear so beginners can easily follow along, but also thorough, taking students as far as they want to go, right to pro level. We also understand that our students have limited time, so all our training is designed to get you results fast, and fit around your busy life.

  • You'll also be invited to our monthly StudentLive live remote classroom sessions, where students from all of our courses get to meet up along with one or more of our tutors.
